England responded strongly to India’s first innings total of 445, with Ben Duckett’s century leading the charge. Duckett and Zak Crawley established a solid partnership, with Duckett particularly aggressive against the spinners. Despite losing Crawley to R Ashwin, Duckett continued his onslaught, scoring his third Test century in just 88 balls, the fastest by an English player against India.
India managed to dismiss Ollie Pope via LBW, but Duckett remained unbeaten at the end of the second day. Earlier, England’s bowlers had kept India in check, with James Anderson dismissing nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav and Catching out centurion Ravindra Jadeja. India slipped to 331/7 but a 77-run partnership between debutant Dhruv Jurel and R Ashwin helped them cross 400. The innings ended at 445, with Mark Wood taking four wickets.
At the close of play, England were 207/2, trailing by 238 runs, with Duckett unbeaten on 133.
