Toss UP Warriorz chose to bowl vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
In the second match of the Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024) in Bengaluru, the UP Warriorz won the toss and elected to bowl first against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). UP Warriorz captain, Alyssa Healy, relied on the statistics that the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has historically favored chasing teams.
This match marked the debut of two players for the Warriorz – Karnataka batter Vrinda Dinesh and fast bowler Saima Thakor. Additionally, legspin allrounder Poonam Khemnar, who previously played for RCB in the last season, made her first appearance for the Healy-led side. Alongside Healy, the Warriorz selected Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris, and Sophie Ecclestone as their overseas players.
On the other hand, RCB chose Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineux, and Georgia Wareham as their four overseas players. Their captain, Smriti Mandhana, expressed that a score of “somewhere around 175-plus” would be a decent total to set while batting first.
Interestingly, this match was played on the same pitch as the opening match where the Mumbai Indians emerged victorious in a last-ball finish against the Delhi Capitals.
Having experienced a difficult start to the inaugural season with five consecutive losses, RCB will be determined to achieve a better start this time, especially as they are playing at home.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore team for this match consists of Smriti Mandhana (captain), Sophie Devine, S Meghana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, Shreyanka Patil, Sobhana Asha, Simran Bahadur, and Renuka Singh.
On the other hand, the UP Warriorz squad includes Alyssa Healy (captain and wicketkeeper), Shweta Sehrawat, Tahlia McGrath, Vrinda Dinesh, Kiran Navgire, Deepti Sharma, Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone, Poonam Khemnar, Saima Thakor, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
Both teams have assembled strong lineups with a mix of talented domestic and overseas players. The stage is set for an exciting encounter as the UP Warriorz aim to restrict RCB to a modest total, while RCB seeks to put up a strong batting performance and claim a victory in front of their home crowd.
